I have decided to share my opinions on the world of politics both at Westminster and at the Scottish Parliament. My general view is that things could be better. I appreciate the hard job that Members of the Scottish Parliament, Scottish Members of Parliament and other MPs have, however there must surely be a way to improve the quality of the work they are doing and get better value for money.
I am an ordinary member of the public and have lived in Scotland all my life. I tend to follow the stories reflected in the Scottish press and am a fan of radio talk shows but I have been quite saddened by some of the misunderstandings reflected by an increasing number of members of the public. The general view that ordinary English taxpayers are subsidising Scottish people is quite concerning and I have a lot of sympathy when English people have difficulty understanding what they get that people in Scotland do not.
I think devolution has been great for Scotland but because the West Lothian question has not been satisfactorily addressed then questions about the constitution remain. There must be a fair way to make decisions that are right for local people and the country as a whole as well as maintain accountability without people feeling threatened.
It is my intention to reflect on some of the frustrations, conflicts and absurdities that are expressed around me. Contributions from Members of the World are very welcome.
